4 tips to achieve luminous “poreless” skin

Ever took a selfie, but felt so conscious about your visible pores that you end up not posting it? Let’s find out more about pores, why do we get them, and how to minimise the appearance of pores!

Pores are a natural part of your skin, and the opening at the top of our hair follicles. It is also where sebum is released to help our skin be naturally moisturised, and while genetics plays a large part in determining the size of yours, your lifestyle can make a difference too.

Here are some ways to ensure that you do not end up with ‘larger than life’ pores, and keep your complexion looking flawless even without a thick layer of makeup on (p.s. the thicker your makeup, the more likely you’re going to clog your pores)!

  1. Remove your makeup
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT sleep in your makeup. The biggest mistake one could ever make, while on their journey to baby smooth skin would be sleeping with makeup on. It is pertinent, that not only do you remove your makeup, you should also cleanse your face thoroughly before heading to bed. Makeup is a congestant to your skin, and will get trapped in your pores. If you’re too lazy to clean off your makeup before bedtime, over time your pores will get clogged and grow in size! Keep your pores clear for fewer whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.

  2. Exfoliate at least once a week
Keep your skin debris-free by exfoliating! Did you know your skin sheds dead cells every day, and these dead cells will sometimes cling onto your skin unless you take the effort to slough it off? By exfoliating, you would be removing dead skin cells, and other things such as fine dust and dirt that could get trapped in your pores (and make them look bigger) which a regular facial cleanser couldn’t. So, don’t forget to exfoliate for an appearance of smaller and cleaner pores! A gentle exfoliation using natural ingredients such as jojoba seeds, rice or sugar is a good option to use without irritating your skin. Just note that if you have dry skin type, you shouldn’t be exfoliating more than once a week to prevent your skin from drying out!

  3. Use a toner
This step, is key! A toner helps to lock in moisture, and prevents loss of water from your skin to external factors. But more than just that, a toner also helps to remove any residue left on your skin, and to keep your pores clean from any dirt and or leftover products. Toners are also a form of astringent, and will help to close open pores, especially after a hot shower when the steam would have caused your pores to open up. The best time to apply your toner would be while you’re still in the shower, and your face is freshly washed, or if you don’t keep your skincare in the toilet, try at the very least, to apply it within 3 minutes upon exiting the shower.

  4. Keep your skin hydrated
Finally, you may think that moisturising does not help with your pores, but that’s not true. By applying a liberal layer of moisturiser, not only are you keeping your skin hydrated, you are also preventing fine dust and other dirt molecules found in the air from getting onto your skin directly. With this additional layer of protection, your pores are safe from external particles, which can ultimately clog your pores, and cause appearance of larger pores! Trust us, your skin will thank you for that extra hydration and protection in the long run!
Try: ést.lab LumiWhite Brightening Cream for a lightweight cream which also evens and brightens out skin texture for a luminous complexion
